Refugee children enjoy circus activities
A successful International Café again yesterday afternoon! Around 80 refugees from the Waldau refugee accommodation joined parents, staff and students of ISS for a couple of hours of fun and communication.
For the younger ones there were hugely enjoyed activities led by circus trainer Lino da Silva including trampoline, unicycle, floor gymnastics and balancing on medicine balls. Nervous to start with, the children soon found that it was great fun and their faces when they succeeded in doing a rolling dive through a hoop or “walking” the medicine ball without support were a sight to behold – that hoop just kept having to go higher! Soccer was, as always, on the agenda for the older boys and the Dads while the Mums shared tea and conversation with the many ISS parents who supported the Café.
We also welcomed students and teachers from the neighboring Wilhelms-Gymnasium who had volunteered to help out with the circus activities and soon joined in the soccer games. We hope they will be a regular feature of future Cafés!
