As we approach our 35th birthday on the 30th of May our countdown, this week looks at 2012 to 2015, years in which ISS enjoyed new facilities, introduced new service opportunities in India and South Africa, started the ISS STEAM initiative and gained authorization to run the IB Middle Years Programme also on the Sindelfingen campus.
The planning and construction of the extension to house an additional sports hall, classrooms for the Middle School and community facilities covered the school years 2009/10 to 2012/13 and our photos show before, during and after construction. The new building was formally opened in October 2012 by the Mayor of Stuttgart and representatives from local businesses that had donated to the financing of the building.
Next on the facilities agenda was a renovation of all the existing Science labs on both campuses and the creation of an additional, fifth lab in Degerloch in 2013 in time for the introduction of the STEAM initiative in 2014.
MUNISS 2015 was a triumph that featured over 500 participants from schools all over the world. So large that the opening and closing ceremonies had to be held outside of school in the Filderhalle, it was the largest Model United Nations conference our school had ever hosted and was an extraordinary example of student leadership.
