ACADEMICS

A Shared Vision, Unique Experiences

At ISS, our academic program unites the best of both campuses, offering students a world-class education in a supportive, multicultural environment. While Degerloch and Sindelfingen each bring unique strengths to the table, both campuses share the same unwavering commitment to inspiring, challenging, and supporting every learner to make a positive impact on the world.

The International Baccalaureate Programmes

ISS proudly offers three IB Programmes, which provide continuity and progression for students aged 3–19:

Primary Years Programme (PYP): Early Years – Grade 5
Middle Years Programme (MYP): Grade 6 – 10
Diploma Programme (DP): Grade 11 & 12

These programmes are chosen for their alignment with our values and their recognition by the Baden-Württemberg requirements and the Kultusminister Konferenz. Each programme emphasizes rigorous academic standards, student-centered learning, and a commitment to character development.

Our Definition of Learning

We define learning as being a transformative process for each learner that combines their unique predispositions and experiences with the development of disciplinary and transdisciplinary skills, knowledge and understanding, to nurture and develop character, competence, and a caring disposition. We believe that learning happens when learners

  • understand what they are learning and why they are learning it,
  • demonstrate agency in guiding their own self-directed* learning journey,
  • reflect on their strengths and monitor their own success,
  • take informed risks that allow them to experiment and learn from mistakes,
  • make connections between each other and the world around them, and
  • embrace multiple perspectives with humility and harness the power of our diverse community.

*Self-directed learning is when learners are accountable for and joyfully engage in choosing the process, content, skills, and outcomes of their learning, with the guidance and support of others, to positively impact our dynamic and interconnected world.
