Intercultural understanding is a bridge between diversity and inclusion in a society

Last week, members from the Sindelfingen Campus decorated one of the trees on “Grüner Platz” in Sindelfingen, with golden baubles and country flags. We had hoped our 8th graders would do this and they, along with some other classes, were all ready to do so. The shutdown prevented this from being possible. The students wrote holiday wishes in various languages, on the baubles but couldn’t go down to town on Tuesday after all.

What a joy it was while decorating the tree, when a couple of men stopped to watch and were thrilled when they saw their national flags of Macedonia and Albania on the tree. A little later, two women were thrilled to discover their flags from Turkey and Morocco too.

Intercultural understanding is a bridge between diversity and inclusion in a society; we have to be able to relate to our own identity in order to participate in and relate to the culture of our community.

Wishing all a peaceful and restorative holiday and a happy New Year!
