ISS Sindelfingen Campus featured in print
The ISS Sindelfingen Campus is one of a number of schools featured in the recently published book “Teaching and Learning for Intercultural Understanding” by Debra Radar. The book focuses on best practice examples from international Primary Schools but the message is whole school and is about “Engaging Young Hearts and Minds”. Amongst its many examples of best practice and lesson plans, this book references the Sindelfingen Primary School as a whole and Early Years and 5th Grade classes in particular.
Drawing on the most current research and work in the field of intercultural competence and existing models of intercultural understanding, this book explores topics such as:
- understanding culture and language
- the importance of personal and cultural identity
- engaging with difference
- cultivating positive attitudes and beliefs
- embedding awareness of local and global issues in students
- designing a classroom with intercultural understanding in mind.
We are proud to be part of a collection of really excellent documentation of schools world-wide. Special thanks to Amanda Haworth, Owen Murphy and Elke Clarus for their contributions to this valuable book.
Influenced by the work of Eithne Gallagher the dual-language approaches in Sindelfingen have evolved and developed into a deeper understanding of the learning benefits of creating an inter-lingual context for learning. This is reflected in Debra’s references to ISS Sindelfingen Campus in her new book.
