Module Overview

The ISS learning experience combines a student’s predispositions and experiences with the acquisition of skills, knowledge and understanding in a continuous journey of self-development from the Early Years to graduation. Our students’ learning experiences reflect the world in which they live and we use global contexts to frame our curriculum. Additionally, as a formally recognized „Digitale Schule“, the active use of technology for learning is integrated in all our learning environments.

At the same time, our curriculum is developmentally appropriate and can be tailored to each student’s individual learning needs. Our teachers are experienced facilitators, enabling students to utilize their talents and skills to ensure enduring understanding and meaningful learning.

We are also an NEASC accredited school, currently undergoing further accreditation using their ACE framework. This protocol is grounded in 10 Learning Principles that underpin a modern education. Here at ISS, these prinicples drive our decision-making and planning, helping us to create robust and effective programs that engage all our learners.

In alignment with ACE, the International Baccalaureate programmes (PYP, MYP, and DP) provide the frameworks for our curriculum, promoting the education of the whole person as a lifelong process and preparing our students for a life of positive participation in a changing world. They provide us with excellent programming structures and approaches through which we can challenge, support, and inspire all of our students, as well as our entire community.

As an integral part of our IB programs, we believe all our students should receive an excellent STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. This belief goes hand in hand with our commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning and to the creation of partnerships with local companies, scientists and research centres. In fact, based as we are in a city renowned for its contributions to engineering and technology, we believe that today’s world requires a creative approach to problem solving. STEM + Arts = STEAM.

As a formally recognized „MINT School“, the German equivalent of STEM (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik), our school is expected to encourage the explicit visibility and integration of MINT/STEAM educational opportunities, establish opportunities with local businesses, promote parental involvement in MINT/STEAM initiatives and to develop a strategic plan for promoting MINT/STEAM across both campuses.
