A year ago the “Parents as Partners” initiative took its first tentative steps with the organization of a job fair where parents shared their professional experience with our Middle Years students. The Friday before the Fasching break saw that initiative take another leap forward as our 8th, 9th and 10th grade students visited a wide variety of companies to take a peek behind the boardroom/consulting room/design studio etc. doors to find out more about career possibilities for their futures.

Amongst the companies they visited were:

  • HP Deutschland GmbH
  • MLP Finanzberatung SE
  • Benz & Walker GmbH&Co.KG
  • Heinekampdesign GmbH
  • Fachärzte für Augenheilkunde with Dr. Kemmerling, Dr. Eckert und Dr. Vojnik
  • Weckert.3 GmbH
  • Thinkstep AG

The feedback from both students and their parents was amazingly positive. The students were highly motivated by this experience. They made connections between their learning in school and the kinds of skills that are required to become successful adults. They met people who are passionate about the work they do. They gained knowledge about areas of expertise beyond those we cover in their classroom learning opportunities. The visit extended the opportunities our students have for exploring their future career opportunities, and the range of options open to them.

The following quote from one of the parents will give you an idea of the kind of impact the “Take a Child to Work Day” had on her son:

„Mein Sohn hat am “Take a Child to Work Day“ teilgenommen. Er war total begeistert!  Vielen Dank, dass Sie dieses Angebot gemacht haben. Er hat noch den ganzen Abend erzählt, was er alles gelernt hat, und wir haben den Eindruck gewonnen, dass es ein außerordentlich gelungenes Programm war, welches hervorragend auf die Jugendlichen zugeschnitten war. …… Die professionelle Umgebung war auch ein großes Highlight für die Kids.“

We are extremely grateful to all the companies for giving our students this learning opportunity and we look forward to future ventures involving partnership between these and other companies and the ISS Sindelfingen Campus.
