Welcome to the Libraries

Welcome to the web pages of the International School of Stuttgart Libraries.  ISS has three libraries that serve the entire school community. At the Degerloch campus, the Secondary School Library supports students and teachers in Grades 6-12 and the Lower School Library assists students and teachers from PreKindergarten through Grade 5. The Sindelfingen campus also has a growing collection centrally nestled within its classrooms.

In addition to the print collection, the ISS libraries offer a number of digital resources to support student learning.  Our thriving library programs include book clubs, visiting authors, special events, and a continually growing collection.  We extend a warm welcome to each of you and encourage you to visit these pages as well as each of our libraries often.

Lower School Library

The Lower School Library is located at the top of the Lower School, surrounded by rooftop gardens, and filled with natural light from three large skylights.  It is a beautiful environment where students throughout the school are welcome to read, work, or relax. The Lower School library is staffed by one full time librarian, Miss Betty, and a part-time library assistant, Frau Ernst.  A team of volunteers work throughout the week to keep pace with young students’ demand for reading materials.

Supporting the curriculum, contributing towards developing literacy, and promoting free-time reading are the primary objectives of the Lower School Library.  We are also pleased to offer two school sponsored book clubs, book fairs, and an attractive and growing collection of both print and digital media.

Upper School Library

The Upper School Library is a spacious 155 square meter room located on the first floor of the Degerloch Upper School building. Our full-time librarian is assisted by parent volunteers and CAS students when possible.

The primary objective of the Upper School Library is to provide students and staff with appropriate resources to support, implement and enhance the school curriculum as well as to provide for recreational use by the whole school community.  For Middle and High School students the library serves not only as classroom resource but also as a place of individual or group study. Relaxed reading when classes are not in session is catered for in the leisure reading area with its soft furnishings.  Networked computers and laptops on which a variety of software is available enable users of the library to access the library catalogue, Internet, and World Book Encyclopedia online.

Sindelfingen Campus Library

The library at the Sindelfingen Campus is a bright and airy space at the heart of the school.  The library is staffed by Mrs. Daniel and parent volunteers.  We are bursting at the seams but have a growing collection of print and digital material to support the curriculum and cater for recreational use. The library is also equipped with laptops for research purposes for the school community. We try to provide material in both German and English language to support the dual language teaching and learning concept of our campus. We have also started collections in other languages, especially in Spanish. We encourage students as well as parents to come and use our library.
