  A fantastic opportunity to celebrate Celtic culture on St. Patrick’s Day with a Ceílí at the second International Café of 2019. Demonstrations of both Soft and Hard Shoe Dancing by members of the Stuttgart based Halpin School of Irish Dance were followed by Ceílí Dancing.   The school’s Database Administrator and Developer came to the Primary School Assembly and presented to the children about his family and ancestors, the Ojibway first nation people of the northern United States and Canada region. The Grade 10 students finished the final part of their Personal Project. This is the culminating project for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and allows students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they acquired during the MYP, through exploring an a project of their choosing. The Hansel & Gretel Readers’ Choice Award is a reading program offered to grades 3 - 6 students attending international schools in Germany. We began in November with 16 books on the reading list and now we only have eight. Over the next few months we will continue to narrow down the list until we have one winner. Students are introduced to the books through book talks and read aloud during their library classes and then can vote for which books they would to continue in the contest.

The International School of Stuttgart (ISS) has completed its second license renewal audit with the German Award Association. This means ISS is accredited to offer and present the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Mr. Klaus Vogel, the National Award Coordinator, interviewed students, teachers and the director and reviewed the program documentation prepared by the Award Team. Another highlight of the week was the Sea-Level Rise presentations from our Grade 7 Middle Years students. We can be proud of the transdisciplinary nature of these projects.
