First ISS Director returns for a visit
When the first ISS Director, Nick Ronai, moved from Bonn to the Stuttgart area he never imagined that the school would grow to its current size. At that time ISS was based in the “Waldheim” on the outskirts of Böblingen and had less than 20 students. Visiting ISS last week with his wife, Angela, Nick was delighted to talk to some 3rd grade students preparing for their Brain Expo, to take tea with a grade 7 Language B class and to meet up with former colleagues.
Asked about his life since leaving ISS, Nick told us:
“I left Stuttgart in 1994 to take up the position of Junior School Director and Deputy Head of the International School in Hamburg where I stayed until I retired in 2010. During that time I was actively involved in all aspects of school life and helped with the move to a new purpose-built school building. Angela, who had been the school secretary in Stuttgart, later joined the school in Hamburg as the Secondary School secretary.
When I arrived in Hamburg, I was fortunate to make contact with a variety of musicians and started to the play the trombone again on a regular basis. I now play lead trombone in two local big bands and recently had an opportunity to play in the newly opened “Elphilharmonie” in Hamburg. Angela and I have become keen golfers and like to travel in Europe. We very much enjoy our retirement.”
Our pictures show Nick in class in the old Möhringen building and looking at pictures last week with his wife and Sarah Kupke, Head of Campus in Sindelfingen.
