How we know what we claim to know...

ToK at the International School of Stuttgart e.V.

Last week our Grade 12 students had a very special three-day “retreat” to focus on Theory of Knowledge to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we know what we claim to know.
Outside of the inquiry of the prescribed titles, students had the opportunity to be active in different activities such as designing their own t-shirts or vitalizing the importance of certain ways of knowing through movies such as “Mementos” or “Inception”. The peak of questioning knowledge was built by the scavenger hunt in down-town Stuttgart, which confronted students with questions about locations they thought they were familiar with. Students were given a series of clues based on tasks that had to be completed such as noticing the inaccuracy of a compass on an intersection on the Königstraße or finding the significance of the Hotel Silber.
