2016/17 was a great basketball season! U15 Girls became champion after finishing 3rd in regular season. The U14 mixed team finished 2nd behind TV89 Zuffenhausen in the regular season as well as in the final four. This week we have dentists from the Health Authority (Gesundheitsamt) visiting our lower school students from Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 4 for the first time. The dental examination is a main part of the school health care and a must in German schools. In August, ISS was awarded an Erasmus+ grant. Erasmus+ is a European Union grant programme which makes it possible for organisations from different participating countries to work together to develop, share, and transfer best practices and innovative approaches in the fields of education, training, and youth. Happy 2018! In the first two classes of the Sindelfingen International School alone, students speak more than twelve languages. Before the Christmas break, the school (headed by Sarah Kupke) opened its doors for refugees, who are housed in the neighborhood on the Goldberg. Ms. Werner visited the International School of Stuttgart on behalf of the Stadtwerke Stuttgart last week, who offer an energy project to all local primary schools each year. The subject of this year’s project was “electricity and heat using the power of the sun”. Ms. Werner demonstrated through the example of a bicycle lamp all necessary components for this kind of energy production and how they interact with each other. Grade 12 traveled to Berlin from December 4th until December 8th as part of their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course. Last Friday’s Health Fair presented by grade 5 was very educational. It was great watching our students grow and how knowledgeable they became during this project. They completed their Health Fair project by following the inquiry cycle which contains tuning in, finding out, sorting out, going further, reflecting and taking action. Today, a special assembly was held on the occasion of Saint Nicolas Day. The student’s idea was to simulate an oversized advent calendar and prepared for each door either a little musical or a dancing performance for the audience. Our 11th graders are currently working diligently on the Group 4 Science Project, an interdisciplinary activity in which all our science students must take part within the Diploma Programme.
