Once again, ISS’s graduates have excelled in their International Baccalaureate results. A 100% pass rate in the Diploma Programme is something to be acknowledged against a world average of circa 80% pass rate.

Students on their final Duke expeditions experienced the beautiful weather and remote landscapes of the Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald. All groups showed good team spirit and enjoyed being on their own, away from teachers and other adults to make their own decisions. Congratulations to Grade 10 student Mr Koike who has been awarded a place on a summer school at the Japanese Space Agency JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency). This is a competitive scholarship programme aimed at providing opportunities for high school students interested in space science and aviation technology. Grade 10 Visual Arts students experienced a day of learning outside the school when they visited two local art galleries. The first being Schauwerk in Sindelfingen, a private contemporary art museum. After lunch we visited our second gallery, the Staatsgalerie, participating in an hour guided tour of abstract art and sculpture.

The incoming Director of the Deutsche Literatur Archiv in Marbach, Sandra Richter and the curator of the Literatur Museum, Heike Gferereis, visited the ISS Sindelfingen Campus this week. Previously a “Central Bank” that stored up to 7 million Deutsch Mark, the Sindelfingen Campus building has seven floors below ground, with large vaults. Grade 9 German Language and Literature students are currently undertaking a unit on newspapers and have been focusing on the Stuttgarter Zeitung. Students had an amazing opportunity to hear first-hand from Ms. Stadtmüller, journalist and editor of Stuttgarter Zeitung, about her work with the newspaper.

Last week we had our largest Middle Years Job Fair yet at our Sindelfingen Campus, with 25 parents and other experts from our local community. In small groups, the Grade 6 – 10 students listened to presentations and questioned experts from the fields of architecture, international development, art and graphic design, urban planning, the Navy, die Polizei, Design engineering … and several more. The students gained new insights into potential careers for their futures.
